James Reaves, known professionally as Alfonza Contracting, was born with southern roots and moved to Newark at an early age—a city that would later become the heart of his life’s work and community service.

After serving in the United States Navy, James began his career in plumbing and HVAC, where he quickly stood out for his skill, work ethic, and leadership. With over 50 years of industry experience, including 25 years as a top leader in his field, he has played a vital role in shaping the infrastructure of Newark and its surrounding counties.

One of his most notable recent contributions was his work on the Newark Lead Line Project, a key initiative for public health and safety. With a unique style, deep dedication, and a commitment to diversity, Alfonza continues to build a legacy—making Newark a better place, one pipe at a time.
